Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club Burgee

Women on the Water 2021

The Royal St-Lawrence Yacht Club, the gateway to Lac St-Louis, offers social sailing instruction for beginner to intermediate sailors and further skills development for women interested in more advanced sailing adventures.

There is nothing more rewarding than learning a new skill with like-minded souls. Our Women on the Water (WOW) program consists of small group classes, for women only, that are designed to build confidence by presenting information in an active, fun, and supportive environment.

Don't pass up the joy of sailing this year!

Learn the basics of sailing using our fleet of 24’ Shark keelboats - a Canadian-designed sailboat that has earned itself a reputation of extraordinary reliability.

Our introductory program consists of five 2-½ hour evening sessions, focused on being on the water for a hands-on learning experience. Course content is adapted to the level of the participants in each class, as circumstances warrant.

With no more than three women per boat, sailors will gain experience in sail trim, boat handling and safety in different conditions to develop confidence in helming and crewing. Our program covers important and practical areas of the sailing experience, including sailboat terminology and anatomy, navigating rules, docking, knot tying and more!

While you are taking the course, you and your family are granted an interim membership to the Club and are encouraged to use all of its facilities, including the dining room, bar, swimming pool and tennis courts. We invite you to sample our hospitality, experience our excellent facilities and benefit from our family-oriented membership.

Whether you are new to sailing or have been on the water for a while and are now ready to take the helm, our Women on the Water classes can help you gain confidence on the water and even make some friends in the process.

A more detailed description of the course content can be found here.
