Battery Recycling Process

Hello Members,

We have received our battery recycling boxes, which come in two sizes. The smaller one is dedicated to regular household-type batteries, which we commonly use as single-use types. They can go directly into the collection box. Button or cell-type batteries need to have their terminals taped. The bigger box should be used for rechargeable type batteries, as these tend to be bulkier. Both boxes are near the tennis ball recycling box and the tennis door exit. Please follow the guidelines, as batteries are considered a fire hazard—the maximum weight of any battery for recycling is 5 kg. Anything bigger will not be accepted.

Call2Recycle has yet to offer a recycling program for batteries used in vehicles or boats(12V), but they are considering it. More to come on this later.

Single-use batteries:

Single-use batteries, the standard household ones, come in various types, such as A—AA—AAA—C—D—9V—and button cell batteries. This variety, Alkaline, Zinc-Carbonate, or Lithium primary, must be replaced when it loses its charge.

Rechargeable batteries:

A—AA—AAA—C—D—9V—Button cells as long as they weigh less than 5 kg. They can be Lithium-Ion(Li-Ion), Nickel Cadmium ( Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride( NI-MH) and small sealed lead-acid ( SSLA/Pb), Nickel zinc (Ni-Zn).

Batteries requiring terminal protection:

Lithium, coin or button cell batteries, Small sealed lead acid ( SSLA), and Alkaline batteries of 9 Volts, or higher voltage output.

DDR Batteries:

If you have any damaged, defective, or recalled batteries ( DDR), including lithium-ion type, contact customerservice@call2recycle. They can provide or direct you to the nearest DDR container to handle them. DDR batteries can never be placed in regular battery recycling boxes and require special handling. You may also call Customer Service at 1. 888. 224. 9764 on how to recycle DDR batteries.

Bag or tape Batteries according to the guidelines below:

Call2Recycle safety guidelines require the terminals of certain battery types to be protected to prevent contact with each other. Unprotect battery terminals can cause sparks and lead to a fire. For lithium-ion, small-sealed lead acid or lithium primary and alkaline batteries that are 12V or more:

Place the battery in one of the clear plastic bags provided with the Call2Recycle box.

Or

For safety, tape the battery’s terminals end with duct tape, electric tape, or another non-conductive tape ( please make sure the chemistry is visible) before depositing. Do not apply tape to any other portion of the battery that would make it difficult to identify its chemistry.

All other batteries: Deposit the battery directly in the Call2Recycle box.

If you run out of Call2Recyle bags, you can use other clear, sealable plastic bags. Close or tie the bags before depositing them in the collection box.

Note: Call@Recylce will recycle all plastic bags collected with the batteries.

Note for eMobility Batteries: Call2Recylce is pleased to collect eMobility batteries from eBikes, eScooters, eSkateboards, and eHoverboards. Special instructions must be followed for these types of batteries. Please call customer service at 1-888-224-9764.
